Knowing Your Child's Recommended Check-up Schedule

How routine check-ups from your pediatricians in Mission, TX can help protect your child's health.

You want to protect your child from illness and injury, and routine check-ups are an important part of safeguarding your child. Your pediatrician can provide the care your child needs to stay healthy.

Dr. Syed Husain and Dr. Sumbul Naqvi at Valley Pediatric Clinic in Mission and Edinburg, TX offer a wide range of pediatric services, including routine check-ups, immunizations, and other services.

It’s critical for you to know how often your child should have a routine check-up. These are the guidelines, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics:

The first check-up should occur within 2 to 5 days of birth, and then after that, another check-up should happen at:

  • 2 weeks, followed by check-ups at 1,2,4,6,9,15, and 18 months. Then, another check-up should happen when your child is 2 years old.

These early pediatric check-ups are important to monitor your child’s growth, development, overall health, and to keep your child current on immunizations.

As your child grows, other check-ups need to happen. These are often required by schools. It’s also required to provide proof your child is current on immunizations. An immunization record is required for admission to daycare and school.

If your child plays sports, a sports check-up is required. The sports physical helps ensure your child is healthy enough to play a sport.

Your pediatrician may recommend additional check-ups depending on if your child suffers from acute or chronic conditions like asthma, allergies, and other common childhood conditions.
